How SEO Is Usually Done

The most commonly used technique in SEO is by inserting certain keywords to web content. The keywords would be used as "bait" for the search engine to bite into, listing the URL of that specific web content to be displayed on the search result.

For example, if we strategically use the keyword "oatmeal cookies" on several parts of the website, the search engine could detect it, and place your website within its list of search results when someone decides to search for websites that have information about "oatmeal cookies".

Keyword-based SEO does not only focus on web content, but also specializes on other parts of a webpage that could be read and scanned as ordinary text. Meta tags for example, including the URL itself, can be fitted with target keywords to maximize its potential visibility to search engines.

Of course, there are many other techniques in SEO side from keyword-based ones, and all of which attempt to achieve a certain degree of predictability and control over the way search engines work.

Importance of SEO

Increasing web traffic is the perpetual objective of a website. SEO provides a degree of control over web traffic when correctly executed. Therefore, the fundamental importance of SEO lies in the fact that it is absolutely pivotal in keeping a website active.

In addition to this however, there are also other reasons why using SEO strategies is significant today:

  • SEO forms, builds and connects communities of similar niches and specialties. When your article is found by another blogger via search engine, a link is established, and both can further benefit from the indirect increase in web traffic provided by backlinking.
  • Search engine optimized content can help people find what they are looking for easier. If you own an information resource website, making it easier to find using SEO can greatly help people who might really need the information that your website can deliver.
  • Web-based businesses flourish with the increased web traffic generated by SEO. As mentioned earlier, a proper SEO strategy could invite more visitors to your website. More visitors mean more potential customers, and more potential customers could mean higher potential income.

Finally, aside from getting your website on a search engine result list, SEO is also important because it helps your website stand out of the crowd. There are almost 600 million websites within the internet as of 2011. Even if we narrow down the number via niche and specialty, we would probably still be left with a few thousand competitors. With SEO, you can separate your website from the general "website crowd".
