So you know the significance of your website appearing high in Google, but you probably don't know how to optimize your website correctly to even get noticed by any of the search engines.
Now, if you don't know what I am talking about, don't feel bad because most people still don't understand website optimization.
In fact, when I started studying Google, there was no information that showed how to optimize your website. It was just build backlinks to your site, and you will rank high in the search engines. This could not be further from the truth.
So what is website optimization?
Firstly, website optimization is commonly referred to as on page optimization. It is simply organizing the content on your website so search engine robots can scan your website for information. This was mind blowing to me, because nobody ever tells you this stuff.
To be honest, even before you try to appear in the search engines, you need to know how to optimize your website so the search engines can find you.
So how do you optimize your website correctly?
There are a few opinions online for what you need for proper on page optimization but here is the basic structure for a web-page.
Keywords
You must decide on the keywords you will be using for your content, as they will be spread out throughout your article. In fact, Google would like to see them mentioned at least three times for every one hundred words.
Place your primary keyword in the first sentence of your article, and the last sentence of every paragraph. You want to make sure you bold it, underline it, and italicize it. This will help search engines know what your page is all about.
Tags
You should have a title tag (keyword should be in the title of your web-page), a description tag, and h1, h2, h3 tags. The header of your website should have the h1 tag.
Images
You should use your alt tags to name your images. The search engines can't read images, so it will only help your website if your images are named with a variation of your keyword.
Internal Linking
The last thing you needed to optimize your website is to interlink your web-pages. What I mean by that, is Google wants you to have a privacy policy page, an about us page, and a contact page. These pages should have links on each page that connect with each other.
For this reason I would suggest using something like "return to {your keyword} home" on all your pages. This will ensure your all your pages are linked to another page on your website.
You, should connect to an authority site that supports the content of your website.
For example, if you were selling a Sony camera, you should write a sentence on one of your supporting pages (not your main page) letting readers know if they want more information on that product they should visit that particular website.
By following these basic steps, you now have the understanding of how to optimize your website, and you should be able to rank high in the search engines.
