Everyone who uses the internet (which is obviously you) will know how to find information either for research, education or purchasing something using the popular browsers including Google, Bing and Yahoo.

How you search for something using keywords or keyword phrases tells the internet marketer and on a more technical level search engines (SEO) whether you are either a prospector or a customer but most browsers will simply type the words into the search bar and start to wade through from the top first page to as many they can sanely take.

Using the basic search conventions, you start to narrow down the results and improve on a higher quality return of information and I start with four types:

1. Broad match - this is the default option in other words; you just type away and view the results. There is a slight order to the keywords or keyword phrase you use from a left to right direction where first word is slightly ranked higher than the second on so on.
2. Phrase match - In order to apply this type you need to add double-quotation marks (" ") around the keyword phrase and this tells the search engine to return the specific phrase match in that order that it appears in the content of an article. So the phrase "Google Images" will show up in 'How to search forGoogle imagesfrom your browser...' and not in 'How to search for images in your Google browser...'
3. Exact match - using this type, you need to apply the square brackets [ ] around the keyword phrase which narrows the search even further. This will be for very targeted traffic and typically use a longer keyword phrase like [How to search for Google images in your browser] where only the phrase appears in the article/keyword match.
4. Negative match - to help exclude matches from a search result you use the negative sign (or hyphen character). Therefore to exclude any funny Google images, you use "Google images" -Funny.

There are other convention not covered in this article but the above will give you a more accurate return of search results.

Another Tip for you! By default, all keywords use the logical operator AND though you can still add this word (note in upper case). Using the OR operator this widens the search too. In general, keyword phrases are not case sensitive so 'Google images' is the same as 'GOOGLE IMAGES'.
